What makes Zumi a good camping and travel towel?
Zumis truly are unique. They are the first (and so far the only) camping towels on the market that offer the highly technical performance required of a camping towel in a soft, plush, 100% Cotton micro terry. Our towels are highly absorbent, fast drying, ultra light and small to pack, while at the same time being super soft and gentle on your skin.
What are Zumi towels made of?
Our towels are made from 100% Cotton micropile terry. The terry is constructed from premium long-staple Aegean Turkish cotton. It is by using this special cotton with extra-long strong fibers that we were able to create this unique extra fine terry. Our ultralight cotton terry is only 250GSM (grams per meter square), compared to regular bath towels which are typically 700-900GSM.
Where is your company located?
Our headquarters are in Port Townsend, Washington, a beautiful small town on the Olympic Peninsula, about 3 hours north-west from Seattle.
Where are Zumi towels made?
Zumis are made by a small family-owned textile mill in Denizli, Turkey. Turkey is the birthplace of the towel, dating back to the Ottoman Empire and the bath culture that thrives to this day. And while Turkey is the world capital of towel textiles, Denizli is the center of the Turkish towel expertise, where the secrets of weaving and towel-making are passed down through generations in family textile mills. Our towel production combines centuries of Turkish towel-making expertise with modern technology which allowed us to produce the revolutionary ultralight micropile cotton terry.
Why did you create Zumi Towels?
We are hikers and campers and travelers ourselves, and we could never find good camping towels for ourselves. We tried the microfiber towels, but frankly they sucked, so we reverted back to using some random stuff like our t-shirts.
And then we found out that microfiber towels are not only sucky, but they are actually quite harmful to the environment. Every time a microfiber towel is washed, it sheds millions upon millions of tiny plastic microbeads. These microbeads are too small to be filtered out by washing machine filters or the sewage treatment plants, so they flow freely into our waterways and end up in our drinking water, the fish we eat, and our own bodies.
This got us enraged enough to take action -- we decided to make it our mission to create a viable and appealing alternative to the microfiber camping towels, and after much research and trial and error Zumi Towels were born. Now people don't have to put up with sucky polluting harmful microfiber!

Right now Zumis are sold on Amazon, which means you get free 30-day returns simply and easily via Amazon. We also warranty Zumis for a full year, so if you have any issues with your towel, simply contact us and we'll make it right!
